The Best Camping Hammock of 2024 (5 Top Picks)

| Updated Apr 8, 2024

Deciding which camping hammock to buy can be overwhelming with all of the options available. I've narrowed it down to the Top 5 picks.

Jennifer and I love our lounge chairs, but sometimes we're envious of campers that have a hammock strung up between two trees. It's certainly one of the best ways to lounge in the great outdoors.

From my envy, I decided to research the best hammocks that also offer the best value. I haven't pushed the order button on any of the options just yet (I think I need to see if I can get in and out of one first!). But you can let me know in the comments if you think I finally should.

First, I'll quickly go over what I learned about the features should consider before buying. Then, I'll list the 5 best camping hammocks I researched on the market today.

1. Hennessy Hammock Expedition Asym Zip

Often referred to as the “coolest tent in the world,” Hennessy Hammocks are very popular. Many consider their Expedition Asym Zip hammock the best in their line.

It offers a 250-pound weight capacity and can sleep one adult. It weighs approximately 2 pounds and 13 ounces.

It comes complete with a hammock, integrated mesh canopy, and a rain fly. It is perfect for campers that want to sleep off the ground!

This hammock offers an asymmetrical design for maximum comfort. Keep your body flat and inline, without any “tacoing.”

Made from 70-denier taffeta on the body, with 3-denier polyester mesh for the canopy, this hammock is extremely durable. In addition, it comes with a rain fly made from 70-denier polyurethane-coated polyester ripstop nylon as an added bonus!

When your camping trip is complete, stuff everything including the fly, straps, and rigging system, back into the stuff sack the size of a flour bag and be on your way.

2. Warbonnet Blackbird

Often referred to as the best ultralight backpacking hammock, the Warbonnet Hammock can fit users that are up to 6′ 6″ tall.

Made from Dream-Tex fabric, this hammock feels just like cotton.

The modular design allows you to use it with accessories that zip right on. You can build and customize your hammock to fit every trip!

This hammock also comes standard with a mosquito net top and a foot box for maximum legroom.

3. ENO Sub6

ENO gear is known for its excellent reliability and durability. Even better? It is sold at a reasonable price point!

The breathable hammock is made from highly durable and fast-drying 30-denier ripstop nylon.

The bug net and rainfly can help keep pests away while also keeping you dry from any inclement weather.

Many people opt to get the ENO Sublink Shelter System that comes with the ENO Sub6 Hammock, Helios Suspension System, Guardian SL Bug Net, and ProFly Sil Rain Tarp.

4. Onewind Double Hammock with Mosquito Net

Onewind Camping Hammock is made of premium 40D Ripstop Nylon material that is lightweight and more durable than 210T parachute nylon material.

It's made with a single extra wide, stitch-free panel design. Instead of sleeping like a banana, you have enough room to lay diagonally. It also has an adjustable ridgeline so you can control the length and sag of the hammock.

Its buckles are triple bar-tacked to webbing loops, ensuring its long-term durability. Plus, it has a built-in compression sack with extra space stores the suspension straps.

5. ENO Singlenest Hammock

Another favorite among ENO products (and all brands) is the ENO Singlenest Hammock. It is known for its incredible durability, reliability, and good price point.

It can hold one adult, up to 400 pounds. Talk about strength!

Made from 70-denier nylon taffeta, this hammock is extremely durable. It can be used for both regular and trail use. And the fabric is soft, which feels good against your skin.

When on the go, stuff it into its softball-size sack. More good news? It only weighs one pound!

What to Look for in a Good Camping Hammock

What features are important to you?

Before rushing out and buying a hammock, there are a few things to consider first.

Use

How do you intend to use your hammock? Do you plan to take it backpacking or hiking with you? If backpacking, then you'll want a very lightweight hammock. They cost more, but once you're lugging it on the trail, you'll be happy you save the weight instead of the money.

You can use an ultralight hammock on a day hike; however, you might want to skip out on the extra cost and purchase a lower-priced hammock. There are great options for every intended use!

What if you want a hammock to sleep in? If so, then gear your search to a tent hammock that can accommodate a rain fly and bug net.

While you can nap and lounge in any hammock, how you intend to use it will likely affect which you ultimately purchase.

Size

When it comes to size, most hammocks have approximately the same lengths. However, one major consideration in hammock size is how many people you want it to be able to fit.

There are single hammocks designed for one person, and double hammocks that can accommodate two people.

When I first imagined Jennifer and me trying to share a hammock, I pictured us tumbling on top of each other in the middle like a taco. But, of course, the designers worked that kink out.

Types of Hammocks

When it comes to hammock design, there are many different types you can choose from. The best ultralight hammocks are great for casual lounging and offer a light, ease of use. More heavy-duty versions can virtually replace traditional tents if you throw in a sleeping pad and use it to sleep in.

Some hammocks have an asymmetrical design that allows the sleeper to lay diagonally to the hammock's centerline. This creates a flatter position for the user than a typical, banana-shaped camp hammock does.

If you intend to use the hammock for camping, I suggest you get one that has a mosquito net. Most bug netting is removable. Many brands call their camping hammocks a hammock tent. You may also want one that can accommodate a sleeping bag.

Accessories

Many hammocks only come complete with the sling itself. There are many accessories that you can add to your order, and some you'll need to add depending on how you want to use the hammock.

There are some choices that come with the whole kit, but make sure that you have what you need before you purchase.

Some accessories that you may want are:

  • stuff sack
  • whoopie slings / attachment points
  • spreader bars
  • rain fly / rain tarp
  • suspension straps

Weight Capacities

Another consideration when picking out the perfect hammock is how much weight the hammock can support. You want to check the weight limit to ensure that it can support you properly. Not only is that safer, but it can also ensure that the hammock is comfortable for you.

Price

The more lightweight the hammock, or the more bells and whistles it comes with, the higher the premium you'll pay. Some of the cool accessories and styles are tempting, but really consider the value based on how much you'll use it.

I have a camping hammock but it breaks easily and is not strong either. So I bought but another brand and I don’t regret the quality is very good the materials are durable, the size is large and easy to set up. Highly recommended. <a href=[Link deleted]

In my youth, I did some tent camping, but mostly used, an Army surplus jungle hammock. Much preferred for solo camping.
