Why Your Tires Matter More Than Your Engine
When people buy an RV, they often focus on horsepower, towing capacity, and all the big, impressive features.
But after years on the road, I can tell you this.
The most important component on your RV is not the engine.
(New to RVing? Start with our Complete Guide to the RV Lifestyle.)
It is the tires.
Every mile you travel depends on those few patches of rubber connecting you to the road. Yet tires are often the most neglected part of an RV.
We have met countless travelers who know their fuel mileage, their generator hours, and every detail of their electronics, but cannot tell you how old their tires are or when they last checked the pressure.
That can lead to serious trouble.
Blowouts do not just ruin trips. They can cause significant damage to the RV itself. We have seen wheel wells torn apart, wiring ripped out, and thousands of dollars in repairs caused by a single tire failure.
The good news is that this is one of the easiest problems to prevent.
Here is the practical tip.
Adopt a simple tire habit.
Check tire pressure before every travel day. Know the age of your tires, not just the tread. And remember that most RV tires age out before they wear out.
If your tires are approaching five to seven years old, it is time to start planning for replacement, even if they look fine.
Because when it comes to RV safety, nothing matters more than what keeps you rolling down the road.
And that is your tires.
