RV Recipes: Make Ahead Cinnamon Rolls

| Updated Jul 13, 2023

Here's another great treat from Chef MJ's collection or RV Recipes! Whether you are baking ahead for an upcoming camping trip or just want to have a yummy breakfast treat at home, homemade cinnamon rolls always hit the spot!

I love cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven, cooled slightly but still warm and gooey.  We often take a gallon-sized freezer ziplock bag with enough make-ahead baked-at-home cinnamon rolls so for the two of us to enjoy a couple of times while camping.

Add a side of cooked sausage, a cup of coffee and if you like eggs – heck scramble up some on the stove at the campsite and add some salsa and cheese to the pan of eggs when the eggs are almost cooked through.

RV Recipes Cinnamon Roll Ingredients

  • 3 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk warmed
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups all purpose flour

RV Recipes Cinnamon Roll Filling

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 tbsp cinnamon sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter softened
  •  1/2 cup dried cranberries and or 1/2 cup diced pecans

RV Recipes Cinnamon Roll Baking Ingredients

  • 8 tbsp butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

RV Recipes Cinnamon Roll Method

  1. Dough: Mix all ingredients until smooth ball forms.
  2. Leave in a warm place until doubled in size.
  3. Punch and roll until approximately 1/4″ thick.
  4. Filling: Beat butter until creamy, add brown sugar (dried cranberries and diced pecans) and cinnamon.  Mix until smooth. Spread over the inside of the stretched dough.
  5. Roll the dough up into a long log lengthwise, then cut into 1″ rolled slices.
  6. Place each slice on a greased sheet of baking parchment on a baking tray.
  7. Cover with a clean tea towel and let the rolls rise in a location that is slightly warm and not drafty for 1 hour.
  8. Heat oven to 375 F or 190C.  Remove the tea towel and bake for 10-15 minutes until brown around the edges.
  9. Icing: While buns are baking, combine the icing ingredients,  spread generously over each roll while still hot.
