Best RV Roof Cleaner (Top 3 Choices)

The following are our top picks for the best RV roof cleaner. There are others on the market, of course, but these are popular options in the RV community.

1. Camco Pro-Tec Pro-Strength Two Step Cleaner

Camco Pro-Tec Pro-Strength Two Step Cleaner - best rv roof cleaner

This is one of the best rubber roof cleaners on the market. Not only does it clear grime easily, but it reduces roof chalk as well.

You're probably familiar with the brand already. Camco makes quality products for RVing, boating, camping, towing, tailgating, grilling, and more.

The first step of this particular product removes black streaks, stubborn stains, road film, and oxidation from the roof of your RV. Then, the second step applies a protective layer to resist new dirt, provide UV protection, and reduce roof chalking.

2. Wet & Forget Outdoor

 Wet & Forget Outdoor

Wet & Forget is a popular brand for battling mold and mildew. The Outdoor product is primarily for roofs and siding and is safe to use on most types of RV roofs.

As the name suggests, it doesn't require any scrubbing, either. You simply spray it on and “forget” all about scrubbing or rinsing. The bottle attaches directly to your hose & sprays up to 30 feet, allowing you to clean hard-to-reach areas.

I just learned you can use it on awnings, too. I may need to add it to my list of Best RV Awning Cleaners.

Benefits of Using an RV Roof Cleaner

Look how nice it looks 🙂

There are many benefits of using a good RV roof cleaner. They help remove the damage done by mother nature and keep those pollutants from causing severe damage.

Durability

Roof cleaners remove loose dirt, grime, bugs, pollutants, and other road grime, that can be harmful to the life of your RV roof. Especially if left on there for long periods of time. By keeping your RV free from these contaminants, you can prolong its life and keep it durable.

Protection

Many RV cleaners add a protective layer to keep harmful rays, water, or environmental pollutants from damaging the roof of your recreational vehicle for a long time. Many come with a UV blocker that can help keep your roof in pristine condition.

Another important thing about a good roof cleaner is its gentle nature. Regular household cleaners can strip your roof by being too abrasive, or containing harsh chemicals like bleach. If you choose the right cleaner made for your roof type, such as an EPDM rubber roof, then you do not risk harming it.

Save Time and Money in the Long Run

Cleaners have come a long way over the years. They are now designed to protect your roof after cleaning by repelling future pollutants and water. That means less work for you and less potential damage to your roof.

Types of RV Roof Cleaner

There are three main types of roof cleaners: spray, concentrate, and rinse-free. You'll need to decide which RV cleaner is best for you…

Spray Bottle

The best thing about a spray bottle is it's ready to use. There's no mixing or diluting. But, while it's perfect for cleaning small areas or mildly dirty roofs, it's not an efficient choice if you're cleaning the whole roof. This brings me to the next type…

Concentrate

A concentrate is the strongest type of cleaner. This is a good idea for those folks that have roofs caked in dirt and grime, and need a good breakthrough cleaner to start.

It comes in a bottle and can cover more area and go a little farther than cleaners in a spray bottle.

You will need to dilute this cleaner in a bucket with water. But it can cut through that grime easily!

Rinse-Free

Another great option is a rinse-free cleaner. They are an excellent choice when you do not have access to a water source since they do not require rinsing. (Hence the name, of course).

All you do is apply the product onto the RV roof, then walk away. Our list below includes a rinse-free product that is great for removing moss, mold, mildew, and algae.

Key Features of Great Roof Cleaners

The best RV roof cleaners will offer these top three key features: safe formula, ease of use, and roof compatibility.

Safe Formula

A good cleaner will be safe to use on your RV. It should be abrasive-free and not contain any harsh chemicals.

Since you're using this cleaner outside, it's best to use an environmentally friendly option.

Ease of Use

Be sure to choose the type of cleaner that will be easiest for you to use. Read the bottle before purchasing to find out how exactly how to apply the product.

Be sure to get the right one for the level of grime that your RV has. Or one that does not require rinsing if you will use it on the road when you do not have access to a water source.

Roof Compatibility

Roof cleaners are made specifically for different roof types. For example, the best RV rubber roof cleaner is formulated specifically to clean an EPDM roof.

DO NOT assume any roof cleaner will be fine. Read your RV owner's manual and buy the right roof cleaning product accordingly.

What is RV roof cleaner?

RV roof cleaner is a specially formulated cleaning solution designed to remove dirt, grime, and other types of buildup from the roof of your recreational vehicle.

How do I use RV roof cleaner?

It is recommended to use the cleaner according to the manufacturer's instructions. Typically, you'll need to mix the cleaner with water in a spray bottle or bucket, apply it to the roof of your RV, and then scrub the area with a brush or sponge. Rinse the roof thoroughly with water after cleaning.

How often should I clean my RV roof?

The frequency of cleaning will depend on the environment your RV is parked in, the type of roof material, and the level of dirt and grime buildup. A general rule of thumb is to clean your RV roof at least once a year or as needed.

ALPHA ROOF SYSTEMS (on my 2022 Keystone COUGAR 22MLS) says: How do I maintain/clean my roof?
No special cleaners are necessary; just use a household cleaner like Dawn dish soap. Clean 2-3 times a year and inspect the caulking. Only once a rubber roof is more black than white it is a good time to think about a roof coating. The Alpha roof membrane is quite inert and will resist weathering well; nor does it require the periodic application of products to protect it from ultra-violet light or ozone. In fact, these products can often cause damage to the roof membrane.

What can I use to protect my roof?
Verify the type of roof you have. (2012 and later RV) TPO – Just regular cleaning and maintaining of the caulking is sufficient. No protectants/coatings are needed.

(pre 2012 RV) EPDM – Nothing is needed. If there is chalking, the “Protect-All” brand of UV protectant does a good job of sealing the surface and slowing down the oxidation/chalking.

Are rubber roof cleaners suitable for TPO roofs? If not, is there a cleaner(s) I should consider for my TPO roof? I currently use Dawn dish soap. I have been told not to use a roof protectant on the roof post cleaning, do your readers agree? Thank you, John

The best product I have ever used is Beastwash by Duratain Products. It can be used full strength with a spray Bottle and will remove the toughest Black Marks from awning arm dripping and can also be used for Roof Cleaning and any other vehicle you might want to use it on. It takes bugs off of the front end better than any product I have ever used. Try it!

I use BEST rv roof cleaner. Twice a year as recommended. It’s concentrated and works well.
Just rinse as you are told or you may leave marks on your unit. Never had this happen though.
I mix and apply with a spray bottle. Removes black streaks, oxidation, and road dirt.
It has a non-petroleum, UV-blocking formula.
I looked at reviews of other products and although it may not be as environmentally friendly as some I don’t feel like being on the roof any longer than necessary and this product needs just one application.
