The Big Get Bigger: Why the Massive Patrick-Lippert Merger Matters to Every RV Owner
We’ve been tracking some serious corporate drama behind the scenes for the past month, and today, the hammer finally dropped.
Patrick Industries and LCI Industries (better known to all of us as Lippert) just announced a definitive agreement to join forces in an all-stock merger. The two companies are combining to form an absolute titan in the outdoor enthusiast and RV component space.
If you remember, I told you on the RVPodcast News Edition back in early June that when long-time Lippert CEO Jason Lippert abruptly “retired” at age 54—the exact same day the Chairman of the Board resigned—it wasn't just a coincidence. It was because the initial merger talks had stalled out, creating massive friction in the boardroom. I predicted that with Jason out of the way, the deal would be back on.
Exactly 26 days later, here we are. The merger is official, Patrick CEO Andy Nemeth will lead the combined powerhouse, and the landscape of the RV industry has changed forever.
But away from the boardroom drama and stock shares, what does this actually mean for the everyday RVer?
Your RV Brand is Only Half the Story
When you buy a travel trailer, fifth wheel, or motorhome, you see the brand name on the front—Jayco, Forest River, Grand Design, Winnebago, or Keystone. But those manufacturers are primarily assemblers. The actual soul, structure, and functionality of your rig come from component suppliers.
And right now, two companies rule that world.
Lippert and Patrick Industries make the parts that keep your RV moving, comfortable, and functional. To put their scale into perspective, look at the sheer amount of equipment they supply to the average RV before it even leaves the factory:
- Lippert averages roughly $5,826 worth of content on every single towable RV built today.
- Patrick Industries brings in another $5,277 worth of content per RV.
When you add those numbers up, these two companies alone supply over $11,000 worth of parts on a single average trailer.
Look Around Your Rig: They Made That
Even if you think you don't own a Lippert or Patrick product, look a little closer at your camper. If you own an RV, you are interacting with their products every single day:
- Your Foundation: Lippert builds a massive percentage of the actual steel chassis frames and axles that RVs ride on, not to mention the leveling jacks and slide-out mechanisms.
- Your Interior: Patrick Industries is the dominant force behind the interior wrap, cabinet doors, countertops, fixtures, and hidden structural panels inside your rig.
- Your Appliances and Electronics: From Furrion electronics and water heaters (owned by Lippert) to specialized seating, mattresses, and plumbing manifolds, their fingerprints are everywhere.
What the Massive Patrick-Lippert Merger Means for RVers Moving Forward
This consolidation creates a virtual monopoly on the components that build our RVs. There are two ways to look at how this will impact everyday RVers:
The Upside: Better Standardization and Support
When the two biggest parts suppliers become one, the integration of technology should get a lot smoother. Imagine smart-RV components, slide-outs, leveling systems, and interior electronics that are actually engineered by the same parent team to work together seamlessly. It could also streamline the aftermarket parts pipeline, making it easier for mobile techs and service centers to source replacements from a unified network when things go wrong on the road.
The Downside: Less Competition, Fewer Choices
Monopolies rarely favor the consumer's wallet. With Patrick and Lippert operating under one roof, RV manufacturers have fewer independent suppliers to choose from. When competition shrinks, prices usually go up, and the incentive to innovate can slow down. If an OEM doesn't like a particular chassis or component design, they no longer have a major alternative competitor to turn to.
This is a historic day for the RV industry. The big just got much bigger, and whether you are towing a small teardrop or driving a luxury diesel pusher, the parts keeping you on the road are now coming out of the exact same house.
