Our weekend at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park

| Updated Apr 26, 2018

We’ll say this: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park is sure family friendly.

Since it's usually just Jennifer, me and our dog, Bo, we never have camped in one before. But we did this past weekend, when the first hints of spring weather brought out the first wave of anxious RVers eager to begin a new family camping season.

The reason we  found ourselves in the South Haven, MI Jellystone Park was to meet our son Jeff, wife, Aimee, and grandchildren Jovie, 3, and Jax 8 months. They just became first time RV owners and Jellystone Park is where they picked for their first campout in their 2018 31-foot long Keystone Springdale travel trailer.

So we invited ourselves along.

Here's our video of the weekend:

We parked our Class B Roadtrek CS Adventurous right next to Jeff and Aimee and the kids. We got lots of good family time… as you always do when your camping. We ate our first meal inside Jeff and Aimee’s new trailer and then went exploring Jellystone Park.

Jovie had a ball joining gobs of other kids on the big jumping pillow.

There were lots of kid activities. Bikes and peddle cars…a game arcade and activities galore. Since the park just opened for the season, the pool was not yet ready but the playground was and Jovie was all over it. There’s also a café with lots of treats. The night we were there, it was strawberry shortcake.

But the highlight is the nightly wagon ride.

This one had Cindy Bear as the guest of honor. Yogi is usually on that ride. But the tenders of the bears told me Yogi was still hibernating. It was indeed a bit chilly.

Yogi and his buddy bears also do a nightly “tuck in,” delivering hot cookies before bedtime to sleepy little campers.

Jellystone Park is even friendly towards dogs. There are hitching posts to keep your pet secure while you are visiting the various attractions and something Bo really appreciated – a fenced in off leash play area.

Back at our campsites, we got a chance to learn a little more about Jeff and Aimee’s new trailer and what the RV Lifestyle means to them.

But after breakfast the next morning, the shakedown voyage of Jeff and Aimee’s new trailer came to an end. As they pulled out and we waved our goodbyes we knew it wouldn’t be long before – sometime soon – we would once again be gathered around a campfire enjoying the RV lifestyle.

And as for Jellystone Park- we had a ball.
