RVers love to take photos and these days, we can take and store more than ever.

But what do you do with them? How do you keep from running out of space? And what’s the best way to share those great memories?

To help us answer those questions I talked with our RV buddies Jim and Chris Guld – better known as the Geeks on Tour. You can listen to the full interview at https://rvlifestyle.com/episode-124-photos-take-rv-trips/, at about 30 minutes into the program.

The Gulds are geeks who teach. They’ve both been in the computer training and support industry since the early 1980s.

They tour the country presenting technology seminars at RV rallies, computer clubs, and even people’s homes.

“We’ve been amazed at just how modern RVers tend to be and how smart they are with technology,” Jim said. “RVers are way out ahead of the curve and it’s kind of cool.”

To stay consistent with that trend, the Gulds recommend the Google Photos app for photo management.

They like the app so much, in fact, Chris wrote a great book called Mrs. Geek’s Guide to Google Photos.

(Simply put – no matter what platform your smartphone is on Apple or Android – this amazing and totally free app need to be on your device.)

As Chris puts it, there’s so much to the app – in a good way – that she needed to put it in a book instead of trying to cover it all in a short amount of time.

“Phones have replaced cameras, and people don’t know what to do with it,” she said.

Not knowing what to do with all those photos is just one of the problems.

The other problem, Chris said, is the potential for eventually running out of memory.

That’s where cloud-based storage comes in.

The Gulds like Google Photos because users can store an unlimited number of photos, even videos. Plus, they can be accessed via any type of device simply by signing in with a Google account.

Another benefit of Google Photos is the ability to search through them.

“I can search for weddings and it will pull up photos of our wedding, 20 years ago,” Chris said.

The Gulds listed other benefits of Google Photos:

  • The ability to create folders for specific categories, such as by month or topic.
  • Photos can be shared easily with a couple of mouse clicks.
  • The various editing functions of Google Photos.

“I think the bottom line with Google Photos is no worries,” Chris said.
