Waiting Season: When the RV Is Parked and Your Heart Is Already on the Road
There is a particular kind of restlessness that only RVers understand.
It happens when the RV is winterized. When the storage door is locked. When maps and ideas for next year start whispering in your head long before January arrives. It's the waiting season.
You are home, but part of you is already gone.
December can feel strange that way. You are grateful to be with family. Grateful for familiar routines. Grateful for a warm place to land. And still, you catch yourself thinking, “I can’t wait to roll again.”
That does not mean you are ungrateful. It means you are an RVer.
We have felt it every year. Sitting at home, coffee in hand, scrolling through photos from past trips and future possibilities. The road feels far away, even though you know it will come back around.
For some of you, the RV is parked in a driveway, moochdocking with family, close enough to touch but not quite in motion. For others, it is in storage, waiting quietly while life happens elsewhere.
Here is the encouragement.
This waiting season matters.
It is where reflection happens. Where plans soften. Where lessons from the past year settle in. Where excitement rebuilds slowly instead of being rushed.
You do not have to rush through December to get back to RV life. You are still living it, just in a different gear.
Take this time to reconnect with people who do not travel with you. To rest your body. To think about what you want more of next year and what you are ready to leave behind.
The road will be there.
And when you return to it, you will bring something valuable with you.
Perspective.
Sometimes the best miles are the ones you do not drive.
