Fortunately, there are ways to block and screen them. On my iPhone, clicking that little “i” button on the right of a number listed under recent calls gives you the option to block any number. Just tap the “i” and scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the “Block this Caller” option.
But there are also apps that can help.

Hiya Caller ID and Block is able to quickly tell you information about who is calling. With Hiya, users can create their own personalized block and allow lists, get information about who is calling in real-time – even do a reverse phone search. The app is free for iOS and Android.
