The California RV Show bills itself as “the largest RV Show in the West.” Of that, there's little doubt: 1,000-plus RVs of every type, size, shape and style. When you add on the sheer size of the venue – new this year, the Auto Club California Speedway in Fontana – it is also, without doubt, one of the largest in the nation.
Certainly it is in the same league as the September Hershey show – dubbed America's Largest RV Show. And the Tampa RV Supershow held every January in Florida.
But because the California show lasts 10 days, stretched over two weekends (ending this year on Thursday Oct. 13), California in our books is of epic show status, meaning it's a must-attend for us and should be a must attend for anyone enthusiastically interested in the RV lifestyle within travel distance of Fontana.
The weather this year, as last, has been picture postcard perfect. No humidity, warm temps (maybe a little too warm last Saturday) and under western blue skies with the San Bernardino Mountains as a pleasant backdrop on the horizon.
In terms of new models, there were not a lot of new ones introduced at the show. The new unveils either were at Hershey three weeks ago or at the Elkhart Dealer Open House two weeks ago in Indiana. Pleasure-way did, however, use the show to introduce a slightly larger version of its new On-Tour model built on the Ford Transit chassis. At Hershey, Pleasure-Way unveiled the 19-foot On-Tour 2.0. In California, they also showed a near 22-foot model, the On-Tour 2.2. You can see our tour of the On-tour it in the video below.
Leisure Travel Vans had a full line of its new models, all now with upgraded 2KW inverters, AGM batteries and some new floor plans, like the new RL (for Rear Lounge) with a large Murphy bed in the rear. The popular Twin Bed Unity was also on display and we did a video tour if it, too.
Thor brought a bunch of its new Sequence Class B vans to show it was staking a claim to the Van Life movement and some cool restorations of old vintage trailers and a 1956 Greyhound bus caught our eye.
