Lightweight Travel Trailers You Can Tow With Almost Any Vehicle

| Updated Sep 15, 2016

The Erwin Hymer Group of North America has introduced four amazingly light travel trailers that can be towed by just about any passenger vehicle on the road today.

The European-styled trailers made their North American debut at the 2016 version of America's Largest RV Show in Hershey, PA and Jennifer and I got a first had tour of them from Jim Hammill, the CEO of the Erwin Hymer Group of North America. And you get to come wth us as we did the tour on Facebook Live video.

Here's the video:

The four units being shown at Hershey will go into production in the spring of 2017 at a brand new manufacturing facility the company is building in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, not far from the current factory that builds its popular Class B Roadtrek motorhomes and the new Hymer Active Class B coach.

The Activ is also being shown at Hershey. It is a European inspired coach built on the Ram ProMaster chassis, aimed at people who enjoy the outdoors and active lifestyle. The Aktiv has a full kitchen galley, seating for up to four, separate bathroom and shower with a swivel toilet and flip up sink to maximize space. The main feature of the Aktiv is the rear queen size bed that fold up, opening the aisle way which allows for storage of large items such as bikes, skis and kayaks.

Jennifer walks you through one on the above Facebook Live video.

European styling, open wide windows and a pop top for air circulation make these Hymer Touring trailers ideal adventure-mobliles. A hard top version is in the works for later next year.

The Hymer travel trailers will revolutionize the North American RV industry. Due to their lightweight nature, customers will no longer have to buy a new larger vehicle to own and tow a travel trailer, as they can be towed by virtually any car.  To prove the claim, one of the models was hooked up to a small mini cooper as you can see n the photo at the top of this post..

Final pricing on the trailers has not been set, but Hammill said they are expected to have a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price starting at about $20,000 U.S. to about $29,000 U.S.

Jennifer and I loved this horseshoe near queen sized mattress on one of the Hymer touring trailers. It would be very easy for one person to get up without disturbing their sleep partner.

The touring trailers come in various configurations, from a small “bedroom on wheels” unit to a modes that have dining arras, tables, and a full bathroom and shower.  Hammill said Hymer will sell them and the Activ motorhome and “other motorhome products we will start building next year” through a network of dealers around the country.
