The Meals You Can Make on the GoSun Solar Cooker

| Updated Jul 31, 2015

Ummmm good. I've been having a lot of fun all summer with the $269 GoSun Sport Solar Cooker, a very useful gadget that can cook just about any meal you can imagine using only the rays of the sun.

But the most fun I had was in Montana, during a gathering of Roadtrekers who came to the Beartooth Mountains near the town of Red Lodge for a recent four-day photo adventure. On the last night of the gathering, we had a pot luck dinner. Since all the participants had been given a GoSun by Roadtrek as art of their registration, it seemed only appropriate that we had folks cook their meals on the GoSun.

You can click on the video to see the amazing things they cooked.

The solar cooker is perfect for campers, especially boondockers who like to be off the grid.

You put your food in the metal cooking tray that slides into a two foot long glass tube cooking chamber. The unit’s compound parabolic reflectors and tubular design converts nearly 80 percent of all sunlight entering its refectories into usable heat, directed to the inside of the glass tube, focused on food you have placed in the metal tray.

It works even on cloudy days, though it takes a bit longer. And it works in even the coldest winter weather. A vacuum between two layers of that tough glass prevents the outside ambient temperature from transferring into the inner cooking zone.

We had a great time cooking with the sun. We needed no charcoal, no wood, no lighter fluid, no flames. There was absolutely no mess. They clean up very fast with just soap and water.

My favorite meal? The Italian sausage, what else?
