Camping fun in the snow

| Updated Jan 18, 2020

We had a ball camping in the snow in the rugged Upper Peninsula of Michigan at our annual winter campout this year.

Twenty inches were on the ground, but the Michigan DNR folks had all our spots plowed out for us. Each site had electricity and everyone slept warm and cozy. Outside, we had a big campfire raging all weekend long and we all gathered round them for appetizers each night before heading into Paradise for one meal, and a local brewery or another.

During the day there were snowshoe hikes, photo walks and exploring the stark Lake Superior icescape at Whiteish Bay nearby

This is the seventh year Jennifer and I have done this in January. The first year, we camped alone. The next year and every year since we have invited others to join us at the beautiful Tahquamenon Falls State Park.

This year, we had 34 other campers attend. They came from eight different states in just about every type of RV from a fifth wheel to Class C and Class B vans. A father-son team from Wisconsin even camped in a Dodge Caravan!

We would have had even more but a predicted ice and snow storm downstate kept some home.

Here's the video of our 2020 experience!

Did you use your gray/black water tanks? I didn’t think Leisure vans were 4 season?
