Barista style coffee while camping

| Updated Oct 5, 2019

If you love barista style coffee with luxurious foamy milk on top…and you happen to be adventure camping miles away from the nearest ‘fast serve' Java cafe', consider making a delightful high end brew of your own, using good quality freshly ground coffee beans.

For the rich frothy milk, bring along a small simple ‘milk frothing' device they are inexpensive ($10 – $15) and do an excellent job!

This article explores a few simple style of milk frothing devices.  Perhaps one style may interest you.

I have successfully used both a manual milk frother like the one below; it looks similar to a French press coffee maker.

The manual ‘milk frother' is pictured below:

Opinion:

Positive: This milk frother is small and does not require a battery or USB port to use. Low cost ~ $15.

Negative: The glass is thin and can break easily.

A USB Android rechargeable milk frother is another option for frothing milk and is pictured below.

This is a small Android rechargeable milk frother and it comes with 3 wands.  2 of the attachments included are milk frothers and one is a whisk that makes homemade whipped cream and fluffy eggs or foamy sauces simple and easy to use while camping.

A USB cord is included enabling you to easily recharge the device when needed by plugging into a USB port. The frother has a slow, medium and high speed option to use by simply touching the speed selection.  The frother starts on a slow speed when you activate the speed button.  If you want medium speed frothing, depress the speed twice, the device will stop when you depress the button and then increase to the next higher speed as you depress the speed button.  To get high speed simply follow the same steps you did (listed above) when you increased the speed to medium.

This device operates with a 1200mAh 18650 lithium battery that is within the frother.

Opinion:

Positive:  Simple Android rechargeable convenient device that is ~ $10 and easy to store.  This device makes frothing milk for coffee or cocoa a breeze as well as a balloon whisk for whisking eggs, whipped cream, sauces etc.  The device holds a charge for 1 hour on high speed, 1 1/2 hrs. on medium/low speeds.

Negative:  The instructions that come with the device do not clearly explain how to attach the frother or balloon whisks.  Instructions for removing them from the device are clear though.

To attach the frother or whisk attachments, simply insert the base at the opposite end of the whisk or frother into the hole at the top of the device. When looking at the base of the whisk note that it has small circular markings.  The markings led me to think that I should screw the base into the device (right for tight)...NO

You attach the base of the whisk into the center opening on the frother device.  The wand will seem to be wobbly but that is ‘normal'.  The wand needs to be wobbly to whisk!  Note:  The USB cable charging is designed for Android only.

Having used both types of milk frothers and being  person that loves my first cup of coffee in the morning… my personal preference is the USB powered milk frother due to its small size and no glass parts to break.  Other features that I love are the 3 speeds on the wand, the x-tra frothing whisk and the balloon style whisk that also come with the device.  The balloon style whisk is also handy for other purposes as mentioned in the introduction.

A milk frother is a device I find useful and worth of space in my Gally when camping.  I also use the frother when we are in our sticks and bricks.

Thanks, Mary!

Two things:
1. A link to the product would be helpful. If it’s an Amazon link, it will also generate a little income for this website.

2. The USB charger for the frother has nothing to do with Android. It’s just a micro-USB charging connector, which is used by a gazillion products (just not iPhones).
